Akwa Ibom Police Recover 415 Live Cartridges, Arrest Suspects in Illegal Possession Case

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced the recovery of 415 live cartridges during a routine stop and search operation on January 23, 2026, along the Calabar-Itu highway. The police intercepted a commercial bus and arrested suspects linked to the illegal possession of ammunition.

One suspect, Ndubisi Raphael, a 36-year-old from Nyaj village in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, was apprehended in Calabar. The Police Commissioner, Baba Mohammed Aza, has ordered a thorough investigation to identify the source of the recovered ammunition and prosecute those found guilty.

The command reiterated its commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, warning the public against obstructing law enforcement officers. In a separate incident, a 38-year-old man was detained for allegedly possessing a firearm unlawfully and making threats in Ikot Akpa Ntuen village, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
