Police Repel Bandit Attacks in Zamfara, Five Injured

On April 9, 2026, the Zamfara State Police Command successfully repelled two separate attacks by armed bandits in the Maru and Bukkuyum local government areas. The attacks occurred on Thursday night when a group of armed bandits, riding approximately ten motorcycles and armed with AK-47 rifles, confronted police personnel.

The police engaged the assailants in a gun duel, effectively repelling the attack and forcing the bandits to retreat into the forest. During the encounter, a member of the Kadauri vigilante group sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a general hospital in Maru for treatment.

Additionally, four residents of Yar Galma village in Bukkuyum sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries during the sporadic shooting that caused panic among the residents. They were promptly evacuated to a general hospital in Bukkuyum for medical attention.

Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, emphasized the commitment of the police to safeguard the lives and properties of the people in the state and urged the public to continue supporting security agencies.
