Police Rescue Kidnap Victim in Enugu, Neutralize Suspect

On July 31, 2026, at approximately 10:10 a.m., operatives of the Enugu State Police Command received a distress call regarding the kidnapping of a woman along Anuka road in Okpuje, Nsukka Local Government Area. Acting on this intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Okpuje Division mobilized police operatives, Forest Guards, and Neighbourhood Watch members to track the suspects into the Anuka area forest near the Enugu-Kogi State boundary.

During the operation, a gun duel ensued, resulting in the neutralization of one suspect, while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries. The kidnapped woman was rescued unhurt, along with her two children and a motorcycle left behind by the kidnappers.

The victims have since been reunited with their family. Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the swift response of the police operatives and urged residents to provide timely information to assist in combating violent crime.
