Nigeria Police Issues Alert on Potential Terror Attacks

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has raised a nationwide security alert due to intelligence indicating that terrorist groups may be planning coordinated attacks on schools, places of worship, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps, and other vulnerable locations. This alert was communicated in a police wireless message dated September 13, 2026, from the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, marked as “Security General” and classified as “Treat as Very Important.” The intelligence suggests an increased mobilization of terrorist elements, particularly in the North-East, North-West, North-Central regions, and parts of the South-West.

The police reported the movement of armed individuals from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State and expressed concern about possible attacks coinciding with the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session and the upcoming 2027 general elections. Police formations nationwide have been directed to enhance security measures, including intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, to prevent potential attacks.
