Ondo Police Arrest Five in Cult Gathering Disruption

On March 27, the Ondo State Police Command, through its Special Anti-Cultism Squad, disrupted a cult gathering in Akungba Akoko, arresting five suspects: Adesuy Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omol, Adu Dele, and Akeju Idowu. The operation was initiated following credible intelligence from vigilant members of the public who reported the suspected cultists convening in a residential building. Upon arrival, the police tactically cordoned off the area and successfully apprehended the suspects, who were reportedly engaging in secret meetings, chanting cult-related slogans, and exhibiting behaviors consistent with cult activities, raising serious concerns for public safety. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were members of the notorious Eiye confraternity, associated with violent crimes and unlawful gatherings that threaten public peace and order. The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the group's broader network and prevent further criminal activities. The state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operation and emphasized community partnership in crime prevention.
