Police Crack Down on Terrorism and Illegal Arms in Nigeria

From August 21 to 23, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force intensified its operations against terrorism and illegal arms manufacturing, leading to significant arrests and recoveries across Imo, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Ogun, and Niger states. In Imo State, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested three suspected terrorist collaborators, including an alleged owner of a terrorist camp, recovering two AK rifles linked to previous attacks.

CSP Ani Iniedu confirmed that one AK-49 rifle was connected to the murder of a Homeland Security Guard, while an AK-47 was taken during an attack on Agwa Police Station in 2022. In Taraba State, police dismantled an illegal firearms manufacturing operation, arresting a 50-year-old suspect and recovering six firearms.

The operations also included a response to an attack in Plateau State, where security personnel repelled assailants and rescued injured officers. Additional arrests were made in connection with violent crimes in Bauchi and Gombe states.
