Ogun Police Arrest 38 Suspects, Seize Firearms and Cash

In the first week of August, the Ogun State Police Command arrested 38 suspects and recovered various items, including firearms, ammunition, vehicles, and cash. DSP Olusegun Babaseyi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that the operations aimed at curbing suspected cult activities, armed robbery, fraud, and other crimes.

Notably, on August 3, victims were rescued in a coordinated operation involving multiple security agencies, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, four mobile phones, and N2.3 million from a suspected hideout. Additionally, 23 foreign nationals were arrested in Atan-Ota for alleged involvement in a Ponzi and visa scam.

Twelve suspected cult members were apprehended in Igbesa due to reports of harassment and extortion at a hotel, with several others escaping. The police also arrested a suspected fraudster who posed as a clergyman, collecting about N2.5 million from fellowship members for a government-sponsored pilgrimage.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the efforts of the officers and emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing in combating crime.
