Police Warn Against Shi’ite Protest Rumors in Nigeria

The police in Taraba and Kwara states have issued warnings against incitement following rumors of planned protests by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, known as the Shi’ite movement, in response to rising tensions in the Middle East involving Israel and Iran. Adetoun Ejir Adeyemi, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, stated that no notice of a protest had been received, and normal commercial activities were ongoing without disruption.

Jame Lashen, the Taraba State Police Command Superintendent, confirmed that no protests had occurred and emphasized the need for heightened surveillance to maintain peace. Both commands urged residents to disregard unverified reports that could incite panic and to cooperate with security agencies.

The police reiterated that Nigeria is not involved in the Middle East crisis and warned against any attempts to manipulate public sentiment for hidden agendas.
