Police Urge Calm After Cleric Survives Stabbing Attack

Musa Lukawa, an Islamic cleric, was stabbed at Lukuwa Mosque in Sokoto shortly after Friday prayers on a date unspecified in the article. The attack occurred around 1:50 PM when an unidentified man entered the mosque and inflicted deep cuts on Lukawa's neck and left hand with a sharp knife.

Following the attack, the assailant was overpowered by an angry mob and subsequently killed before security operatives arrived. The deceased assailant was taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

The Sokoto State Police Command, represented by DSP Ahmad Rufai, condemned the mob's actions as jungle justice and called for calm among residents, warning against potential reprisal attacks. Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, emphasized the importance of allowing police investigations to proceed to ensure justice.

Security personnel have been deployed to maintain order, and residents are urged to report suspicious activities.
