Borno CAN Urges Christians to Engage in Politics

Reverend John Bakeni, the chairman of the Borno State Chapter Christian Association of Nigeria, addressed journalists on Saturday during the 3rd Gwoza Christian Nation Conference held in Maiduguri, Borno State. He urged Christians to actively participate in politics and reject the misconception that politics is a dirty game.

Bakeni expressed concern over the low participation of Christians in political activities, noting that this trend limits their access to political opportunities and representation of issues affecting them. He argued that the character of politics depends on involvement and stressed that Christian contributions could positively influence the political system.

Bakeni called for Christians to register with political parties and engage actively in the democratic process, emphasizing that political participation is a civic duty. Emmanuel Ibrahim, speaking at the conference, highlighted the importance of prioritizing human capital and infrastructure development, particularly in education and healthcare, to foster unity among diverse communities in Borno.
