Peter Obi: Slim Chances for 2031 Presidential Run

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), indicated in an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni that the likelihood of him running for president in 2031 is very slim. Obi explained that he would be 78 years old by then and highlighted that the power dynamics in Nigeria suggest that the presidency would return to the South in 2027.

He expressed concerns about the perception of his candidacy, stating that he does not want people to think he is merely seeking power for its own sake. Obi noted that the zoning arrangement in Nigeria would likely favor the North in 2031, making his chances of running again less probable.

He emphasized that the outcome of the 2027 elections will significantly influence the political landscape, and he does not plan to run in 2031 if he loses in 2027.
