Minister Tegbe Acknowledges Ongoing Electricity Issues

Joseph Tegbe, the Minister of Power, admitted that many Nigerians continue to experience unreliable electricity despite the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to enhance power supply. In a post on his X handle, Tegbe expressed understanding of the frustrations faced by citizens who have not yet felt the benefits of reforms since he took office three months ago.

He noted that the government has focused on diagnosing and addressing long-standing challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. A significant intervention has been the restoration of the 375-megawatt Alaoji power plant in Abia State, which had been offline for three years.

Additionally, over 350,000 electricity meters have been deployed following a legal dispute resolution involving the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors. Tegbe emphasized that while progress is being made, it will take time to achieve reliable electricity supply and dismissed concerns about potential tariff increases, stating there are no plans to raise tariffs.
