Power Minister Tegbe Promises Reliable Supply, Warns Theft

Joseph Tegbe, the Minister of Power, assured industries operating along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor of a sustained electricity supply during a high-level engagement. He warned that the Federal Government would take firm action against energy theft, meter tampering, and practices undermining the power system's integrity.

This engagement followed concerns over discrepancies between electricity supplied and energy accounted for by market participants. The Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor has become a major industrial cluster, serving some of Nigeria's largest electricity consumers.

Since 2024, the Nigerian Independent System Operator's (NISO) monitoring systems have revealed troubling anomalies in energy consumption, with losses reaching as high as 100MW and a total loss of 120 billion in one year by 2026. Tegbe stressed that while the government prioritizes reliable electricity for industries, it must be matched by responsible consumption and accurate payment.

He directed stakeholders to investigate transparently and warned against meter tampering and other forms of energy theft.
