Power Minister Tegbe Reports 18 Hours of Daily Electricity

Minister of Power Tegbe revealed that improvements in electricity supply have led to some Nigerians requesting him to “slow down,” as certain areas now receive up to 18 hours of power daily. This statement was made during the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University in Abuja.

Tegbe noted that regions previously without electricity for months are now experiencing significant improvements. He mentioned that while changes in electricity supply were expected within three to six months, the Federal Government still faces challenges, particularly with aging infrastructure, some of which is over 40 years old.

Additionally, he expressed concern over vandalism, citing recent destruction of three transmission towers in Birnin Kebbi, which affected services to Kebbi State and Niger Republic. To combat this issue, a joint committee involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigeria Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been established to protect critical electricity infrastructure.
