Power Minister Tegbe Warns Against Energy Theft in Industries

Joseph Tegbe, the Minister of Power, assured industries operating along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu transmission corridor of a reliable electricity supply while warning against energy theft, meter tampering, and practices that could undermine Nigeria’s power system. This assurance was made during a high-level engagement with industrial customers, where concerns were raised about discrepancies between electricity supplied and energy accounted for.

The Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor has become a major industrial cluster, with technology-based monitoring systems revealing anomalies in energy consumption. By 2026, losses along this corridor reached 100 megawatts, translating to an estimated loss of N120 billion in one year.

Tegbe emphasized that reliable electricity must be matched by responsible consumption and accurate metering. He directed stakeholders to conduct a transparent investigation into these discrepancies and warned against meter tampering and manipulation of consumption data.

The engagement included representatives from NISO, TCN, and electricity distribution companies, highlighting the government's commitment to accountability and financial discipline in the electricity sector.
