Egbetokun Resigns as IGP; Disu Appointed Acting IGP

Kayode Egbetokun has officially resigned from his position as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Nigeria, with the resignation being accepted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The resignation was communicated in a letter citing urgent family reasons.

President Tinubu expressed profound appreciation for Egbetokun's distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation. Egbetokun's tenure began in June 2023 and was expected to last until June 2027, according to the provisions of the Police Act.

In light of current security challenges, President Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector General of Police, effective immediately. The President expressed confidence in Disu's operational experience and leadership capabilities to provide steady focus and direction to the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period.

Additionally, President Tinubu plans to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu's appointment as substantive Inspector General, which will then be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
