Prof. Olaopa Advocates for Funding of Executive Commissions

Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), urged for stronger funding and political insulation of executive commissions to enhance their effectiveness in discharging constitutional responsibilities and promoting good governance in Nigeria.

He made this call during a courtesy visit from Dr. Moham Bello Shehu, Executive Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, at the FCSC headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Olaopa highlighted the importance of adopting global best practices, citing countries like Australia and New Zealand, which enjoy considerable autonomy and credible budgetary protections for their executive commissions.

He stressed that a strong and impartial institution is essential for safeguarding merit-based professional governance, free from excessive political influence. Furthermore, he called for legislative reforms to enhance financial autonomy and operational frameworks, ensuring that the civil service remains efficient and credible.
