Prof. Olaopa Advocates for Mentorship in Civil Service

Prof. Tunji Olaopa, chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), spoke at an event in Abuja organized by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) focused on mentorship in the civil service.

He highlighted the significance of mentorship as a critical component of the FCSC's reform blueprint, known as FCSSIP25, which aims to manage talent and develop leadership pipelines. Olaopa lamented the loss of administrative wisdom in the civil service due to retiring bureaucrats and stressed the need for a structured mentorship framework.

He urged the adoption of reverse mentorship to bridge the skill gap between tech-savvy young civil servants and their senior colleagues. Additionally, Olaopa called for public-private partnerships to enhance skill acquisition and emphasized the importance of restoring personalized career development plans.

Mr. Esther Didi Walson-Jack, head of the civil service, was acknowledged for her positive contributions to civil service reform.
