Adelabu's Supporters Demand Direct Primary in Oyo APC

On Thursday, supporters of Adebayo Adelabu protested at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Oyo State, demanding that the party adopt a direct primary method for selecting its governorship candidate. This protest followed a meeting where party leaders, including Sharafadeen Alli, were reported to have adopted a consensus candidate for the upcoming primary elections.

Adelabu, who previously served as the Minister of Power, resigned from his position to pursue his ambition for the Oyo State governorship election scheduled for 2027. He formally declared his intent to contest on May 12, 2026, at an event held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ado, Ibadan, attended by prominent party members such as Kunle Sanda, Isiaka Alimi, and Wale Sanusi.

Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), believes that the state deserves the dividends of democracy.
