ATBUTH Conducts Eye Health Program for Bauchi Pupils

On October 8, the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi organized an eye health program across four schools in Bauchi metropolis to commemorate World Sight Day. The schools involved were Government Day Secondary School, Bakari Dukku, Al-Iman International Schools, Palace Secondary School, and Kobi Primary School.
The theme for this year's celebration was "Love Your Eyes." Dr Umar Mohammed, Senior Registrar in the Department of Optalmology at ATBUTH, led the initiative aimed at children aged 5 to 18 years. The program focused on early identification and correction of eye conditions to prevent serious issues in adulthood.
Children diagnosed with refractive errors received spectacles, while those with allergic conjunctivitis were given medication. The outreach also referred children with more serious ocular conditions to the hospital for further evaluation.
Dr Mohammed expressed gratitude for the participation of pupils and the organization of the event by school authorities.
