Qatar Ends Free Visa Extensions, Reinstates Standard Rules

Qatar's Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced on May 28, 2026, that it would suspend its temporary policy of automatically extending expired and near-expiry entry visas, with standard visa regulations reinstated from June 7, 2026. This policy change mandates that all entry visa holders comply with normal validity periods, renewal requirements, and associated fees.

The MoI had implemented the extension policy on February 28, 2026, due to travel disruptions in the region, allowing for a one-month automatic extension of all categories of expired or near-expiry entry visas at no cost to the holders. With the suspension of this policy, the MoI will enforce standard immigration procedures, including renewal steps and fees.

Visa holders who do not renew their visas or exit Qatar before expiration will incur penalties as per existing Qatari immigration law. Individuals currently under the extended arrangement are advised to verify their visa status before the June 7 deadline.
