Rainstorm in Kaduna Kills Two, Leaves Families Homeless

A violent rainstorm struck Dokan Mai Jama in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leading to the deaths of two people and rendering dozens homeless. The storm, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, was accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds, causing widespread damage across the affected settlements.

Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, the village head of Dokan Mai Jama, confirmed the incident, stating that around 50 houses were either completely destroyed or suffered major structural damage, including roofs being blown off and walls weakened. Families were displaced overnight, forcing them to seek temporary shelter.

Victims of the disaster have appealed to the Kaduna State Government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for urgent humanitarian assistance. An assessment team from NEMA has been deployed to evaluate the extent of the destruction and determine immediate intervention needs.

The incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of rural and suburban communities in Kaduna State during the storm season, particularly as extreme weather conditions intensify.
