REA Signs MOU to Provide 7MW Power for Agro Clusters

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Jigawa State Government and the Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX) during the Jigawa Investment Summit on October 26, 2023. This landmark agreement aims to deliver 7 megawatts (MW) of power to seven agro-industrial clusters across Jigawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Ekiti, Osun, and Ebonyi states.

The REA will deploy energy infrastructure to power irrigation systems and processing facilities, while the NCX will issue warehouse receipts to eligible farmers for aggregation and export. Dr.

Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of REA, emphasized that reliable electricity is crucial for attracting investments and driving industrial growth, which in turn creates jobs across Nigeria. The MOU reflects a shared commitment to clean energy and agricultural integration, strengthening food security and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

The summit was officiated by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who opened discussions on strategies for sustainable economic growth in Jigawa State.
