REA, Jigawa, NCX Sign MOU for 7MW Power Delivery

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Jigawa State Government and the Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX) during the Jigawa Investment Summit on October 26, 2023. This partnership aims to deliver 7 megawatts (MW) of power to seven agro-industrial clusters across Jigawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Ekiti, Osun, and Ebonyi states.

The agreement outlines that the REA will deploy energy infrastructure to support irrigation systems and processing facilities, while the NCX will issue NCX-backed warehouse receipts to eligible farmers for aggregation and export. Dr.

Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of REA, emphasized that reliable electricity is crucial for attracting investments and driving industrial growth, which in turn will create jobs across Nigeria. The MOU reflects a shared commitment to clean energy and agricultural integration, aiming to strengthen food security, create sustainable employment, and unlock greater economic value for local farmers and rural communities.
