Wike Affirms PDP Leadership Authenticity Amid Factional Disputes

During the 108th National Executive Committee meeting of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) held at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, affirmed the legitimacy of the party's leadership led by Abdulrahman Mohammed. He urged the party to intensify efforts to reconcile with defectors and to strengthen unity ahead of future political contests.

Wike emphasized the importance of reclaiming the national secretariat, stating that the PDP should hold its meetings there rather than in hotels. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the party but encouraged loyalty and commitment among members.

Wike also warned against halting the reconciliation process and highlighted the need for transparency within the party. The ongoing factional disputes involve rival factions led by Tanimu Turaki and Mohammed Anyanwu, with legal actions pending regarding party recognition and leadership legitimacy.

The PDP is currently navigating internal crises and legal challenges, with a court ruling expected on January 12, 2026.
