Red Cross Warns 142,915 Jigawa Residents of Flood Risks

The Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) has successfully communicated flood disaster early warning messages to 142,915 residents in Jigawa under the Shock-Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) project. This initiative was announced during a training session held at Dutse Royal, Jigawa's capital, on a Thursday.

Mr. Kefas Shutty, Project Officer at NRCS, stated that the training targeted civil society organizations and media practitioners, facilitated by 75 trained community volunteers across Auyo, Hadejia, and Miga local government areas. The beneficiaries included 61,805 males, 68,558 females, 2,174 persons with disabilities, and 10,378 children.

Funded by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Education Funds (UNICEF), the project commenced in November 2024 and was initially set to conclude in April 2026, but was extended by three months. Shutty also mentioned challenges such as the lack of triggers for social protection support and funding gaps.

The event included the unveiling of Community Emergency Response Plans (CERPs) for the affected areas.
