Lagos Residents Frustrated by Uncollected Refuse Issues

Residents of the Alimosho area in Lagos State voiced their frustration on Saturday regarding the accumulation of uncollected refuse, which they believe undermines the objectives of the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise. This exercise resumed on April 25, 2026, after nearly a decade-long hiatus, occurring from 6:30 am to 8:30 am on the last Saturday of each month with restricted movement.

Mr. Shola Aboro, a resident of Apatira Street, stated that while he and others are committed to maintaining cleanliness, the lack of timely waste collection by the Private Sector Participants (PSP) has been discouraging. Another resident, Mummy Daniel, indicated she might cease participating if refuse remains uncollected.

Mr. Ambrose Udeh mentioned balancing sanitation efforts with the need to work, while Mr. Nose Omorodion expressed that persistent refuse heaps deterred him from participating. The situation reflects a broader concern about the effectiveness of the sanitation initiative amidst ongoing waste management challenges.
