Residents Alarmed by Six-Month Refuse Heap in Lagos

Residents and business owners along Idimu-Ejigbo Road in Lagos State have expressed concern over a refuse heap that has persisted for six months. The refuse, located around the Dorcas and Silva Estate end of the road, emits offensive odours and poses environmental hazards.

Observations revealed that the waste occupies approximately 150 metres of the road median, with some refuse spilling onto the road. Local shop owner Fatai Adegbenro highlighted the unbearable smell, especially during hot weather, questioning why the refuse remains despite the presence of waste management operators, LAWMA and PSP.

Another resident, Philip, described the situation as embarrassing, noting the road's heavy usage. Previous reports indicated that some refuse was evacuated, but residents claim the latest efforts did not cover the entire area, leaving the heap untouched.

Anjarat Adewale, a local trader, stated that the refuse is affecting businesses, particularly food vendors, who are losing customers due to the odour. Residents are appealing for immediate action to clear the waste and prevent its return.
