Onoh Critiques Omokri's ₦3,000 Daily Survival Claim

Joseph Onoh, Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of Enugu State House of Assembly, criticized Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, for stating that an average Nigerian can survive on a ₦3,000 daily budget. Onoh described Omokri's justification of this budget using the ₦70,000 minimum wage as a regressive economic argument that normalizes extreme poverty.

He pointed out that while ₦3,000 daily totals approximately ₦90,000 monthly, it fails to consider the socio-economic realities of Nigerian households, particularly in light of rising food inflation. Onoh referenced data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), indicating that a healthy diet costs over ₦1,500 per adult per day.

He argued that a ₦3,000 budget translates to an unrealistic ₦600 per person for a family of five, insufficient for even one nutritionally complete meal. Onoh urged Omokri to align his views with the financial pressures faced by Nigerians rather than presenting misleading economic calculations.
