Omokri Faces Criticism Over N3,000 Living Claim

Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, has been criticized for stating that an average Nigerian can live comfortably on a daily budget of N3,000. Josef Onoh, a former South-East spokesman for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, dismissed Omokri's claim as unrealistic given the rising cost of living in Nigeria.

Onoh noted that while N3,000 daily totals N90,000 monthly, which exceeds the N70,000 national minimum wage, it does not reflect the financial realities of Nigerian households. He explained that a family of five would only have N600 per person daily, insufficient for proper nutrition and other necessities.

Onoh cited the increasing costs of food staples, transportation, and healthcare as evidence that N3,000 is inadequate. He also pointed out that urban residents face additional living costs, making the proposed budget untenable.

Onoh criticized using the minimum wage as a benchmark for living standards, arguing it misrepresents the economic challenges faced by many families in Nigeria.
