Oluremi Tinubu Launches Food Bank, Empowers 5,000 in Anambra

On Thursday, Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone and inaugurated the Tertiary Education Trust Fund-sponsored ICT Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State. During the event, she flagged off an empowerment programme led by Dr. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, which provided business grants and vocational tools to 5,000 beneficiaries across the state's 21 local government areas.

Tinubu described the ICT centre as a significant investment in the digital future of Nigerian youths and the food bank as a crucial part of the Federal Government’s food security and social welfare initiatives. The food bank targets vulnerable groups, including widows, the elderly, and nursing mothers, to alleviate economic hardship.

Each of the 5,000 beneficiaries received a cash grant of N100,000. Tinubu concluded her tour of the six geopolitical zones in Anambra, emphasizing national unity and the importance of the initiative in promoting sustainable agriculture and social safety nets.
