Oluremi Tinubu Launches Food Bank Initiative in Ogun

On Wednesday, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, launched the National Community Food Bank Programme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, aimed at addressing food insecurity and malnutrition among vulnerable households. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance food security and health outcomes.

The programme focuses on providing nutritious food to children under six, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. The launch event also included the inauguration of the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate and the 250-bed Gateway Medical Centre of Excellence.

The programme was established through a partnership involving the First Lady's office, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and the Bank of Agriculture. Following its initial launch in Abuja on April 2, subsequent launches occurred in Borno, Jigawa, and Kogi, with plans to extend to the South-South and South-East zones.

Three food banks have been set up in Ogun State, and state governors are encouraged to establish community food banks in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
