REAN and Fire Service Collaborate on Renewable Energy Safety

The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) and the Federal Fire Service, represented by Samuel Olumod, convened to address safety standards and sustainability within Nigeria's renewable energy sector. Oisereim Lloyd, head of communications at REAN, emphasized the organization's commitment to ensuring safety for lives and properties while deploying renewable energy solutions nationwide.

The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration on safety standards, particularly concerning solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Discussions included improving installation standards, promoting fire safety awareness, and educating renewable energy practitioners on preventive measures and emergency response protocols.

Lloyd highlighted that solar PV systems are not inherently fire disaster-prone, but incidents can arise from substandard components and poor installation practices. The collaboration aims to enhance system reliability, reduce safety risks, and build public confidence in renewable energy technologies as Nigeria continues to expand access to clean and reliable energy.
