Nigeria's Tourism Sector Laws to Be Strengthened

Hon. Arc Muhammad Muktar, the chairman of the House Committee on Tourism, expressed commitment to strengthening laws that regulate Nigeria's tourism sector to achieve sustainable growth.

During the 2026 National Hospitality and Tourism Stakeholders Forum, he emphasized that legislative action is crucial for shaping the tourism industry, which is expected to drive economic improvement and contribute to GDP growth. The forum, themed "Shape the Future of Nigerian Tourism Together," highlighted the need for a robust regulatory framework to overcome existing challenges such as fragmented institutions and infrastructural deficits.

Ola Awakan, the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), noted that the sector has immense potential but has not yet reached its full capacity. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda to renew policies that support private sector interest and enhance the tourism ecosystem through the NTDA Act of 2022, which aims to provide a stronger legal foundation and ensure compliance across the sector.
