Airtel Nigeria Approaches 18,000 Cell Sites in Expansion

Airtel Nigeria is on the verge of surpassing 18,000 cell sites as part of its aggressive network expansion strategy. According to the company’s latest annual report, Airtel has been adding more than 1,000 new sites each year, significantly enhancing high-speed mobile connectivity, especially in rural areas.

The expansion effort positions Airtel as a leader in infrastructure investment within Nigeria's digital economy, with its network now covering all 774 Local Government Areas. As of early 2026, Airtel had crossed the 17,000-site mark, having added approximately 2,000 sites over the previous two years, up from around 15,000 sites two years prior.

Dinesh Balsingh, Airtel’s Chief Executive Officer, stated at a recent media roundtable that the company plans to continue this large-scale network expansion throughout 2026, emphasizing the importance of digital connectivity for all, including those in remote and small communities.
