Nigeria's Telecoms Subscribers Reach 189.7M in May 2026
As of May 2026, the total number of telecoms subscribers in Nigeria reached 189,675,650, an increase from 188,009,171 in April 2026, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). MTN Nigeria leads with 96,977,835 subscribers, representing a market penetration of 51.19%.

During the company's 25th anniversary celebrations in Lagos, Chief Financial Officer Modupe Kadri revealed that MTN invested N1.6 trillion over the past 18 months in network expansion and customer experience. The continuous growth in telecom subscriptions is attributed to a stable operating environment and effective regulatory policies by the NCC, as stated by Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria.
