Reps Committee Commits to NYSC Members' Welfare

The House of Representatives committee on youth development, led by Chairman Martin Esin, reaffirmed its total commitment to the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members during an oversight inspection of orientation camps in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The committee expressed satisfaction with the conduct of corps members and the facilities at the camp.

They emphasized the need for improvements in living conditions and services, taking judicial notice of previous demands for upgrades. During the inspection, the committee visited various facilities, including the camp clinic, which is run by a sole corps doctor and nurse.

They interacted directly with corps members to assess welfare and food arrangements. The committee chairman advised corps members to seize opportunities for skill acquisition during their stay and encouraged them to avoid unnecessary travel during their primary assignments to prevent sanctions.
