Reps Give 24-Hour Ultimatum to Rural Electrification Chief

The House of Representatives has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Abba Aliyu, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, concerning the accountability of N151 billion and $550 million in grants. This decision followed a public hearing held in Abuja on Tuesday, where a motion was moved by Representative Paul Kalejaiye.

The committee expressed concern over Aliyu's absence from the hearing, where he neither attended nor sent a representative. Representative Shina Oyedeji highlighted the importance of Aliyu's appearance, noting that the ultimatum was necessary due to the lack of response from the agency's management.

The committee is investigating the agency's involvement in renewable energy projects, particularly the Nigeria Electrification Project and the off-grid energy initiative funded by the African Development Bank, which aims to reach 500,000 people. The committee emphasized the need for accountability to maintain Nigeria's credibility with international development partners.
