Reps Pass Bill for Federal College of Fisheries in Rivers

The House of Representatives has passed a bill aimed at establishing the Federal College of Fisheries Technology & Marine Engineering in Ngo, Rivers State. The bill was presented by Akarachi Etinosa Amadi, the chairman of the House Committee on Ocean and Fisheries.

It amends the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act, Cap A12, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, to create the proposed institution. The House concluded debates on the general principles of the bill on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, and subsequently referred it to the committee for further legislative action.

A public hearing was held on July 14, 2025, where various maritime, educational, and regional stakeholders assessed the proposal. The bill aims to address local manpower deficits in the maritime sector, expand access to technical vocational education, and stimulate economic development across the Niger Delta region.
