Oyo Pupils and Teachers Rescued, Reunited with Families

On May 15, 2023, 56 pupils and teachers were abducted from three schools in Oyo State, including Baptist Nursery Primary School and Yawota Community Grammar School. They were rescued last Friday, with the reunion taking place on Monday in Ibadan.

Governor Seyi Makinde and President Bola Tinubu were commended for their involvement in the rescue efforts. Following their release, the victims were taken to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso for medical attention.

Out of the 39 rescued children, eight required further observation due to health issues, including congenital heart defects. The Senate, during a session, called for the withdrawal of a motion for a UN-led investigation into the abduction, praising the military and security agencies for their efforts.

The Senate also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation.
