Nigerian Army Rescues 44 Abducted Pupils in Oyo State

The Nigerian Army announced the successful rescue of 44 pupils and a teacher who were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. Following a well-planned operation that began on July 10, the victims are now receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

The operation involved intelligence-led efforts and collaboration among various security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, National Security Adviser, Defence Headquarters, Nigerian Police Force, and local vigilante groups like Amotekun. Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that the victims would be handed over to the Oyo State government for reunification with their families.

The operation aimed to identify and apprehend the kingpin behind the abduction and dismantle the logistical network of the criminal group. The Nigerian Army expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde for their support and emphasized the need for continued vigilance from the public.
