Reserved Seats for Women: APC Nat'l Women Leader Makes Key Demand, Sends Message to Tinubu, Others

Dr. Mary Idele Alile, the national woman leader of the Progressive Congress (APC), has demanded a constitutional amendment to reserve seats for women in the National Assembly.

In a statement on August 10, Dr. Alile emphasized the moral and political necessity to end the structural exclusion of women in leadership roles.

She highlighted the importance of balanced representation in democracy and pointed out that Nigeria lags behind other nations in gender inclusion. Dr.

Alile called for swift action from political leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to address the issue of underrepresentation of women in politics. She warned that delays in implementing measures to increase women's participation could hinder Nigeria's progress.

The Nigeria Women Trust Fund also urged the government to prioritize and embrace the inclusion of women in key positions.
