NARD Issues 14-Day Ultimatum to Federal Government

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to resolve outstanding welfare and professional issues affecting its members, or risk industrial action. This ultimatum was announced following NARD's 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Calabar, Cross River State, where NARD National President, Dr Emmanuel Ogar, outlined concerns regarding prolonged delays in implementing agreements with the government.

Key issues include inadequate remuneration, career progression, excessive workload due to manpower shortages, and general welfare. NARD demands immediate implementation of previously reached agreements, particularly those improving conditions of service and professional development.

The association also seeks a review of doctors' remuneration structures to reflect economic realities and compensation for excess workload. Additionally, NARD expressed concern over the migration of healthcare professionals from Nigeria, urging the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to address the contributing factors.

Improved welfare at the state level and better hospital infrastructure were also highlighted as critical needs.
