Ajao Estate Residents Demand Road Reconstruction in Lagos

Residents of Ajao Estate, Lagos State, are calling for the reconstruction of Fatai Irawo Street, citing its hazardous condition that poses safety risks and negatively impacts business activities. During a visit on Thursday, community members expressed their concerns about the road's deteriorating state, which has led to accidents, especially when large vehicles pass.

Ugo Chukwu, a resident for five years, highlighted the road's persistent safety issues, while trader Amarachi, who has lived in the area for 17 years, noted that the road's condition has severely affected her business, particularly during the rainy season when flooding makes access difficult. Although residents welcomed the ongoing drainage construction aimed at addressing erosion and flooding challenges, they lamented that it does not include road repairs.

Laja Fowokan, vice chairman of the community development association, emphasized the slow response from local government and the need for comprehensive road rehabilitation to improve access and stimulate economic activity. Adeshina Odunuga, spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry of Works, did not provide comments on the matter.
