Residents Flee Borgue Emirate Due to Rising Kidnappings

Murtala Dantoro, a prince of the Borgue Emirate, has raised concerns about the mass migration of residents to the Republic of Benin due to escalating kidnappings. Speaking in Minna, Niger State, he reported that between 500 and 600 residents have been abducted from mosques and communities in the local government area.

Dantoro emphasized the need for the government and security agencies to take immediate and proactive measures to address the insecurity, advocating for permanent security infrastructure and personnel in the Borgue land. He expressed that the ongoing migration is detrimental as it results in the loss of local skills and talents, which are vital for community development.

Dantoro called for collaboration between the police and local vigilante groups to combat terrorism effectively. He also appealed to humanitarian organizations, including UNICEF, to provide shelter and relief materials for those affected, stressing the urgency of the situation as residents seek safety in New Bussa and beyond.
