CAN Calls for Permanent Security in Borgu After Abductions

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, has urged for a permanent security deployment in Borgu Emirate after the abduction of Muslim worshippers during Jumu’at prayers on August 21, 2026. Most Rev. Dr Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, the state CAN chairman and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, made this appeal during a homily at St. Michael Catholic Cathedral Church in Kontagora.

He emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance and protection around places of worship, particularly on Fridays and Sundays. Yohanna condemned the abductions, stating that insecurity in places of worship affects all Nigerians, regardless of their religious affiliations.

He expressed solidarity with the victims' families and the affected Muslim communities, and called for intensified prayers for the safe return of the abducted worshippers. The CAN chairman commended the efforts of the Federal and Niger State Governments and security agencies while stressing the urgent need for sustained intervention to prevent further attacks.
