Terrorists Abduct Over 60 Worshippers in Niger Attacks

On August 23, 2023, during Juma’at prayers, terrorists attacked multiple mosques in Borgu LGA, Niger, abducting over 60 worshippers from Dekara's central mosque. Residents reported that more than 100 individuals were still missing following the attacks.

A video released by the terrorists claimed they had abducted about 500 people, including women and children. Usman Musa, a local resident, stated that over 200 individuals from Gbezin have been displaced and are currently seeking refuge in the Benin Republic.

Some reports indicate that some of the kidnapped worshippers may have been killed, although the exact number remains unknown. Following the attacks, terrorists warned remaining residents to vacate their homes within 30 minutes, threatening violence against those who stayed.

Security forces are conducting recovery operations, but the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) complicates their efforts.
