Northern Senators Condemn Borgu Attack, Demand Action

On Wednesday, the Northern Senators’ Forum, led by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua of Katsina Central, condemned the recent terrorist attack in Borgu local government area of Niger state. The attack involved the abduction of hundreds of worshippers from Kpenya Mosque after Friday prayers, as well as from villages in Gidan-Zana and Dekara district.

The senators described these actions as barbaric and unacceptable, emphasizing that targeting innocent worshippers is an attack on shared humanity and faith. They expressed concern over reports of landmines being planted and further abductions for ransom.

The forum urged security agencies, including the Armed Forces and Nigeria Police Force, to intensify rescue operations for the abducted individuals. Additionally, they called on the federal government to provide urgent relief and medical support to affected communities and to enhance security in Borgu LGA and surrounding areas.

The senators also advocated for a comprehensive review of the security architecture in Niger state and the North Central region to prevent future occurrences.
