Kano Residents Demand Urgent Road Rehabilitation Action

Residents of Kabo, Gwarzo, and Karaye in Kano State have voiced their grievances over decades of neglect concerning a major road that has been in a dilapidated state for over 50 years. The road, which connects several communities across the three local government areas, has severely impacted transportation, especially during the rainy season, forcing residents to take longer routes that increase travel costs.

Efforts to rehabilitate the road began in 2011 during the administration of former Kano State Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, but the project was abandoned after six months. In 2016, during the tenure of Senator Barau Jibrin, work briefly resumed but was again halted, leaving the road incomplete.

Residents have organized themselves to draw attention to the situation, appealing to the Kano State government for urgent intervention to rehabilitate the road and provide essential infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and clean drinking water. Despite previous attempts to revive the project under former Governor Dr.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, no meaningful progress has been made.
