Former Ministers Face Mixed Fortunes in Election Bids

Five former ministers, including Adebayo Adelabu, Yusuf Tuggar, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Saidu Alkali, and Yusuf Sununu, resigned from their positions in the federal executive council to contest for various electoral offices in the 2027 general elections. Tuggar resigned to pursue the governorship ticket for Bauchi State under the Progress Congress, while Sununu aimed for a senatorial ticket in Kebbi State.

Alkali sought the governorship ticket in Gombe State, and Onyejeocha aimed for a House of Representatives ticket in Abia State. However, the outcomes were mixed; Onyejeocha secured the APC ticket for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency, while Adelabu and Alkali lost their bids.

Adelabu alleged manipulation in the primary process after losing to Sarafadeen Alli, who received 578 votes to Adelabu's 193. Alkali also lost to Jamilu Gwamna, who garnered 247 votes compared to Alkali's 161.

Allegations of irregularities and lack of credible processes marred the primaries, with Tuggar's future in the APC uncertain amid claims of imposed candidacy.
